O'PAKE ADVISES
FARMERS TO APPLY FOR TAX CREDITS
Harrisburg,
December 4, 2007
--
State Sen. Michael A.
O’Pake, the Democratic Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural
Affairs Committee, today advised local farmers that applications are now
available for the Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Tax Credit
Program.
There is $10 million in available tax credits this
year for the new REAP Program and applications will be accepted starting
December 26, 2007.
“This is a great opportunity for farmers all
across Pennsylvania who protect and preserve our environment to receive
state money to offset costs of operation,” O’Pake said. “Farming has
always been a big business in my district so I was thrilled to support
and promote this program’s development.”
REAP allows farmers and
businesses to earn tax credits in exchange for Best Management Practices
on agricultural operations that will enhance farm production and protect
natural resources.
Eligible applicants may
receive between 25 and 75 percent of project costs as state tax credits
for up to $150,000 per agricultural operation.
For more information on
the program, farmers and small business owners can view the program
guidelines and application at
www.agriculture.state.pa.us.
In July 2007, the Senate
voted unanimously to approve legislation establishing the REAP Tax
Credit Program (Senate
Bill 690). This new program was eventually incorporated into the
negotiated 2007-08 budget package.
